First Class Learning (FCL) a highly successful Math and English program in the UK recently opened its first location outside of the UK in Venice Beach, aiming to bring the same high standards of the British curriculum to the children of California’s British expats.
FCL has about 200 centers inside and outside of schools in the UK, with the FCL Math and English curricula set within the frameworks of the National Curriculum for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the 5-14 Guidelines (Curriculum for Excellence) in Scotland. Rigorous independent analysis in Britain has shown that FCL students excel in school to a greater degree than would otherwise be the case. The FCL curricula in Math and English have now been tailored for use in North America, but retain their original framework of meeting British standards.
The FCL center in Venice has approximately 200 local students. Students as young as four, learning how to read and write, through to high school students preparing for their SAT, attend the center after school.
The Center’s manager, Andrew Mitchell, told the British Weekly: “First Class Learning builds confidence in children and develops their ability to learn independently. Children of all abilities and backgrounds thrive in the First Class Learning programs, as the programs are individualized to each student’s specific needs. Our students progress a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood and mastered a topic. We support a child’s learning with the aim of making school studies easier. Students can study Math or English, or both subjects together. Math and English provide the foundation necessary to succeed in any area of school and life.”
The center is located at 2805 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Ste. E, Venice CA 90291. For more information or to enroll your child, please call Andrew at: 310 736-6575 or visit www.firstclasslearning.com
