On November 28 at 7:30 pm acclaimed British author Simon Winchester, internationally bestselling author of such books as The Professor and the Madman and Krakatoa: A Crack in the Edge of the World, will appear in Los Angeles as part of the Writer’s Bloc series.
Winchester’s new work, Skulls: An Exploration of Alan Dudley’s Curious Collection, explores the astonishing assortment of skulls (animal, reptile, bird) held by a man in England, whose day job is as a wood veneer specialist for luxury cars. In his spare time, he has amassed one of the largest collection of animal, reptile and bird skulls in the world. Simon Winchester examines the role of skulls in religion, pop culture, and pseudo-science– and how skulls have become the very symbols of death, afterlife, danger, poison, and evil.
Winchester, who has enjoyed a long career as a journalist spanning more than three decades will appear ‘in conversation’ with Andrea Grossman, founder of Writers Bloc. At the Goethe Institut, 5750 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. Plenty of street parking and parking in building. Tickets, $20. For reservations and more information, visit writersblocpresents.com .
