At a private residence in Bel Air on Saturday not even torrential rain could stop the British launching the new UKares Foundation charity, although the weather did force the event indoors two hours before the guests arrived.
The chosen honorees on this evening were the selfless and caring individuals who have given back to their community in countless ways. Katy Haber MBE was given her award from Don Haber COO of BAFTA/LA, while Bernard Skibben received his award from Ukares Chairman, Marc Conneely.
Guests were entertained by classical pianist Maya Fiennes, followed by the opera singers Gus Farwell and Maria Elena Infantino. Guests dined on treats created by Carry On Catering and enjoyed speciality cocktails made from Ultimat vodka & Honest Ade, Everybody Loves Raymond star Doris Roberts sipped on ONEHOPE wine and the guests enjoyed British Newcastle Brown Ale and smartwater.
The charity is the brainchild of British actor Craig Robert Young and the board of directors include Eileen Lee, Gano Lemoine, Sandra McClean, Marina Paganucci, Christine Peake and chairman of the board Marc Conneely, who described the foundation this way:
“The UKares Foundation is a non-profit charity and international human services organisation, that helps and supports individuals or families living abroad from the UK and commonwealth. The foundation is a safety net, providing support and financial aid to those who are in need, crisis or transition. Be assured ‘When no one else cares – UKares'”
CEO Craig Robert Young told the attendees at the sold out event: “Simply put we are a helping hand wrapped in a red white blue glove. Some place you can turn to when it seems like all hope is lost. You may just need advice on renewing a visa or how to get insurance, or perhaps assistance after an accident, or to plan a funeral. One thing is for sure we’ll be there to steer you right, get you back on your feet and help you on your way.”
