The title of the play, which was originally developed at London’s National Theatre by playwright Jemma Kennedy, refers to a term in astrology, when all the planets are out of  alignment and nothing adds up – a pretty fair description of the life of the central character – Guy Proud . Guy’s job depends on the success of his new ad campaign. He’s sleeping with Nina, the product manager, but he’s in love with Vivienne, who is French. Murray, his estranged father breaks his leg and has to move in with him, along with his sister Rose, who works out her post-partem depression by obsessively baking cakes. What’s a Gemini to do?

Jemma Kennedy first made a name for herself with her debut novel Skywalking,   published by Penguin/Viking in 2003. She went on to work in radio theatre on in fringe theatre in the proviences before she was offered a placement at the National Theatre Studio, where she wrote The Grand Irrationality.  Jemma was a Pearson Playwright in residence at the National 2010-2011, for which she has written two plays.  She is now under commission to the Unicorn Theatre, Soho Theatre and NT Connections for their 2013 seasons.  Jemma has three films in development with directors Justin Hardy and Amanda Boyle.

The Grand Irrationality is playing now through March 3rd, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 4pm. Tickets are $25.  For reservations call (323) 960-4443 or online at www.plays411.com/grand.
