Stuck for St. Paddy’s Day?

St. Paddy’s Day is almost upon us and with it plenty of celebrations at local British and Irish pubs.

LA INSTITUTION: The Tam O'Shanter on Los Felix Blvd.
LA INSTITUTION: The Tam O’Shanter on Los Felix Blvd.

The King’s Head in Santa Monica will be serving their famous Corned Beef and Cabbage from Friday, March 15th and Sunday, March 17th, and on the day itself (Sunday March 17th) the pub will be serving green beer, with a bagpiper during the day and a DJ to help get the party started at the sun goes down.

Ye Olde King’s Head is located at 116 Santa Monica Boulevard in Santa Monica.

Another venerable LA institution is the Tam O’Shanter resturant, (part of the Lawry’s restaurant group), which traditionally holds one of the biggest Irish celebrations in the city. The restaurant will open at 10:00am, with a special tent area in the parking lot opening at 12:00pm, music firing up at 1:00pm, and the party going well into the night. Among the line-up of live bands on offer will be Dublin Public, a Long Beach outfit playing traditional Irish drinking songs and ballads from the likes of the Dubliners, Clancy Brothers, Wolftones, and The Pogues; Slugger O’Toole, an L.A.-based Celtic trad/rock quintet who share a passion for the working, fighting, and drinking songs of Ireland, and the Ploughboys, Tam O’Shanter’s own house band.

The Emerald Society Pipes & Drums will be on hand to herald the evening (usually around 4:30pm-5:00pm). Formed in 1999, the Emerald Society Pipes & Drums band consists of members of the law enforcement community throughout Southern California as well as selected non-official personnel.  The Tam O’Shanter is located at 2980 Los Feliz Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90039.
