Cor blimey guvnor… I hear Guy Ritchie’s decided he’s cracked the film biz and now wants to bang out a few tunes down the boozer on the old Joanna!
The Lock, Stock director has decided to move into the music industry and has set up his own record label, Punchbowl Recordings – named after his London pub – and his first signing is The Punchbowl Band, who are the resident entertainers at his Mayfair boozer.
I suppose she did give movies a go, but what would ex-wife Madge say about him encroaching on her musical turf?
The Punchbowl Band are a traditional Irish outfit who have entertained everyone from Cheryl Cole to Justin Timberlake and have even played private parties for Stella McCartney and Robert Downey Jnr.
Guy said: “It’s exciting to venture into the music industry. It’s a tough place but I’ve seen this band connect with people. They have every chance of being embraced by a wider audience.”
And Guy’s got a better chance than most of his label being a success. Punchbowl Recordings is part of Universal, which has Amy Winehouse and Lady GaGa on its books, and he’s already managed to get The Punchbowl Band’s music released on CD – they performed on the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack with composer Hans Zimmer. Making it in the music biz? With connections like this it’s elementary.
