SPRING is upon us and with it the minds of many local Brits are turning to…BritWeek.
Yes, the annual two-week salute to British business and arts and the links between the mother country and the Golden State is bigger and better than ever this year with a dazzling array of events between April 23rd and May 6th.
This year’s BritWeek kicks off with a Red Carpet Launch on the 23rd (by invitation only at a private residence) followed by the UKTI Business Innovation Awards the following day at the Four Seasons Hotel at Beverly Hills, located at 300 South Doheny Drive. The awards recognize business innovation in five categories: Design, Marketing & Communications, Philanthropy, Service Provision and Technology.
The BritWeek Gala Dinner has been confirmed for Thursday, April 25th at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills and 2013’s charity partner is Malaria No More. The Gala Dinner will take place on World Malaria Day, Honoree and Entertainment not available at press time.
Saturday, April 27th sees Spaceland present the BritWeek Music Festival, where some of the best new British talent will be showcased at a variety of Eastside music venues including Spaceland and the Echoplex. There will be live performances from some of the latest and greatest UK artists, as well as artist signings, local retail events, and more. The line-up includes New Build, Swim Deep, Splashh, Blood Red Shoes, Chad Valley, Little Boots, Dark Furs, Various Cruelties, Virals, Steve Mason and Pop Noir.
Rocker Steve Cooke will be performing for one night only on Saturday, May 4th at Molly Malone’s, (575 S Fairfax Avenue) where he will be joined by a highly-charged group of expat players in a powerful, two-hour show featuring new songs and classics. Performing alongside Steve (vocals/guitar) will be Marcus Brown on bass, special guest drummer Steve Ferrone and more iconic British band mates to be announced.
The event will also celebrate the release of Steve Cooke’s new EP.
Other highlights include a Downton Abbey Party at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica on May 3rd. Also by the beach is the Spring Jubilee in Santa Monica on May 4th and 5th. The festival will be held on three blocks of the Third Street Promenade from Santa Monica Place to Wilshire. The Santa Monica Spring Jubilee will include the best in spring flowers, plants and accessories, and feature a wide variety of family-friendly activities and entertainment with a British flavor. The event will also feature a garden contest where landscape professionals will create garden vignettes with an “Urban Tea Garden” theme.
