Thistle Club founder Frank Hendry passes away in Palm Desert

LONGTIME British residents will be saddened to learn of the death of Frank Hendry last weekend in Palm Desert. He was 84.

Frank was well known in Santa Monica in the 1970s and early 1980s as the owner of The Thistle Club on 5th and Arizona – a very popular pub for the expats from near and far as well as many locals.

In the early 1980s Frank passed the reins over to his daughter Milly Hendry and the club changed names to one more well-known to younger expats – Milly O’ Malley’s. The space is now occupied by the nightclub Zanzibar.

Frank leaves behind his lovely wife Marie and Milly his beloved daughter. RIP from all of us here at the British Weekly.

The funeral for Frank is at 2.30pm Friday 5th of April at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church,  43775 N. Deep Canyon Road, Palm Desert. Call Anne Shaw at 310/ 392-1681 for more details.
