Welcome to the third installment of the Brits In LA page, I’m happy to be back after a splendid vacation in the South of France, sailing the Amalfi Coast and, erm, camping with the family in Derbyshire.
So let’s dive right in: One of our most popular events is the British pub crawl which we’ve been running for he past year or so. Please check our website (britsin.la) for details of our August event, which will happen in tandem with the movie release of ‘The World’s End’ a sci-fi comedy and the latest collaboration of those supremely talented Brits Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright (see trailer below). This is the duo who brought us Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. To keep us all safe, we’ll be taking the big red bus from bar to bar, so less a crawl…more a bus stop crawl. Space will be limited so check in with us regularly as tickets go on sale soon.
Don’t forget this Sunday (July 7th) Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood (8288 Santa Monica Blvd) will host its infamous Drag Queen Bingo Night (7.30-10.30pm) as a fundraiser for our short film “Pepper”. Bingo calling starts at 8pm. If the show alone wasn’t enough you have an opportunity to win Shania Twain tickets as well as hotel/theme park tickets to Disnleyland, spa packages, facials, and a chance to bid on a weekend stay for six in a mid-century Palm Springs home. Suggested donation at the door is $20 and attendees will be given multiple bingo cards to play. Parties of 6 or more can call to reserve tables and have a special celebrity guest host for the evening. Call (323) 654-3800 to book.
And although we love living on the West Coast we remain patriotic and loyals Brits – which is why later this month we will be hosting a baby shower to mark the birth the Duchess of Cambridge’s first child and to wet the baby’s head – tickets will go on sale next week.
This month also sees the launch of our discount program for a limited number of loyal members: we will be running a demo to test it out. Members will receive a unique Brits in LA keyring, uniquely numbered which will give you priority booking at all of our events at a discounted rate, plus discounts at selected businesses and venues around town – PLUS invites to exclusive events throughout the year. If you are interested in being involved at a very discounted rate please email us for more details at BritsinLA@gmail.com with “Key club” in the subject line. (Please be aware we have a limited number, so if you don’t make it we will add you to the waiting list for the next round of membership).
And of course we have our regular events including the British Breakfast Club every Tuesday and Saturday at Cecconi’s on Melrose (at Robertson) in West Hollywood, plus the Sunday Roast at The Pikey (7617 W Sunset Blvd, about five blocks east of Fairfax), book a table any time from 2pm onwards.
