What A Swell Party That Was….

By Eileen Lee and Craig Bobby Young

Hi Breeps,

Thanks to everyone who turned out for last Sunday’s fantastic afternoon event at The Palihouse (8465 Holloway Dr. West Hollywood, CA 90069) to celebrate Prince George’s arrival. 150 members enjoyed cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, beer, wine and Pimms in the garden for a prop’r summer fete. We want to thank our sponsors Volkswagen – Santa Monica, LAcarGUY, Beltran Brito Immigration Attorneys and Audi Pacific. Without their support we could never put on these great events

We loved that we were able to host an event for families. We had a fun fancy dress (costume) competition, lots of candy floss, popcorn and old-fashioned games for the kids, including bottle toss & leap frog. We had Anne Shaw (Astrologer) reading tarot for guests and the British-inspired clothing company “Scream Famous” (7712 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046) set up a pop-up shop with 10% of all sales going to baby 2 baby- the very fitting charity we chose to benefit. We have set up a baby registry where members can go online and purchase items for underprivileged local mothers, who can’t afford these items for their newborns. It’s not too late to contribute, please visit http://www.diapers.com/baby-registry/188873/Baby-To-Baby and pick out some items from our registry.

Also a huge shout-out to all of our volunteers who helped keep the event running smoothly. We really appreciate all of your help: Sophie, Sarah, Kim, Len, Tom, Lorraine, Sharon, Ewan, Karen and Joanne.

I would also highly recommend a trip to the Grammy Museum (800 W.Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90015), which currently has an exhibit of ‘The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr. You can see his drum-kits, original stage outfits and sing along in “Yellow Submarine” with him. The exhibit has plenty of interactive things to do and I highly recommend visiting when you have family in town.

We’re always busy at Brits In LA and other fun events on the horizon include our monthly pub crawl, (Sat. August 17th) which ties in with the release of the new Simon Pegg/Edgar Wright movie “The World’s End’… which is all about a pub crawl that goes awry. We are going to be traveling via a double decker bus (check the website at www.britsin.la) for all the details and to RSVP.

This Sunday, August 4th we will be enjoying a Sunday Roast at THE PIKEY (7617 W.Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, CA) Voted one of the top 5 of best British pubs in LA.  And if you are a Brits in LA Key Member you will receive 20% off entire bill including alcohol – Must show your key fob to receive the discount).

And EVERY TUESDAY Come join in for a full British at  Brits in LA breakfast sponsored by www.nextstoplax.com (relocation specialists) at Cecconi’s Restaurant (8764 Melrose Ave, West hollywood, CA 90046).

If you are new to LA you maybe interested to know that you don’t need a credit score to buy or lease a car, there is such thing as an International Leasing plan that both Volkswagen, Santa Monica and Audi Pacific offer, that takes into account your credit score back home and proof of some sort of visa to work in Los Angeles, CA email Michael Burger at Volkswagen, SM at michaelburger@lacarguy.com  or Evan Bolton at Audi Pacific at evanbolton@lacarguy.com to find out how you can get into a car hassle free – these guys have helped countless Brits in LA members already. If you have any questions about moving here, health insurance, where to find marmite… you can always email us at britsinla@gmail.com.

In the meantime stay cool in the heat and we look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events….

 Craig and Eileen
