Meet A Member: Sandro Monetti

sandroMeet SANDRO MONETTI from Blackpool who moved to LA 11 years ago as an entertainment reporter and author. He has written books on both Mickey Rourke and Colin Firth, and is currently enjoying the success of his spoof musical Miserable Lesbians, which played at the Edinburgh Festival two months ago.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA ?

I loved the Steve Martin movie LA Story, which presented the city as an alluring, magical, romantic paradise – a description I have found to be true. Being here is like dipping in magic waters.

What one thing do you miss from home?

This is home now. But the world is so much smaller now and technology and commerce mean that anything you miss from the UK is obtainable. Even Jammie Dodgers.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus the UK?

Three things actually; the customer service is miles better, the people are happier and the opportunities are greater.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

St Vincent Court, tucked away at 650 S. Hill St in Downtown LA, is a faux French street with fun facades of Parisian restaurants that has a special place in my heart as I used it as a filming location for my award-winning short film and now turned stage musical, Les Mis parody Miserable Lesbians.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Buckle up and enjoy the ride, dudes. Oh, and use sunscreen.
