Call me Mr. October….

Hi Breeps!

October just keeps getting better and better! Earlier in the year the British Community rallied around to help myself and Marc Cleary make a short film. So many thanks to those very special 206 people whose pledges allowed ‘Pepper’ to come to life. And so many Brits in LA members got involved in the filmmaking process too, from appearing as background and/or production assisting on the set. Everybody got to celebrate on Tuesday night in WEHO at one of the best gay bars in town – Rage (8911 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood), home of the Dreamgirls drag show starring our lead actor Scott Kaske. We projected the movie in the main room and showed it simultaneously on the TV screens. The film got an amazing reception and everybody celebrated with cocktails afterwards with a special performance by Scott doing his thing in the Dreamgirls show. I’m so proud of the team effort and was lucky with the cast and crew we got. Big shout out to Marc Cleary the writer, my co-director and co-producer without whom none of this would have been possible. Love ya, brother.

Another first for me last week was a baseball game. I managed to score tickets to see the Dodgers vs. St. Louis Cardinals so took my good friend and Brits in LA member Marc Coneely… also a Baseball virgin. We went in to Dodger Stadium neophytes and came out true fans. Luckily we had a pro on hand, my good friend Lyndsey Clough who taught us all we need to know and it was one hell of a game. Aloe Blacc sang the national anthem which gave me chills and of course we were seated in the all-u-can-eat section and chowed down on the famous Dodger Dogs and supped on giant-sized cans of Mexican beer. How perfectly LA! The game itself was electrifying with the Dodgers winning 6-4 amid some frenzied home support. On Friday they played again but on the Cardinals turf and lost 9-0. I guess it’s true what they say about the roar of the crowd helping the team. Our sports writer Steve Sidelnyk was there too and wrote a match report for us which is on our blog (www.britsinla.blogspot.com) and Steve has a big birthday coming up next month so a big shout out to him.

With Halloween almost here our Facebook wall has been buzzing with talk of British chocolates and where to get them, so don’t forget to patronize your local British store for your Flakes, Fry’s Turkish Delight, Maltesers and whatever else tickles your fancy. Apparently Bed, Bath and Beyond have recently started to carry Quality Street…just in time for those trick or treaters.

Anyone not living under a rock these past three months cannot help but have heard the debate on ObamaCare and how it affects us all in the coming months. Brits in LA Member Adam Beach has already helped countless members get affordable insurance and whether you are for it or not, come January every US resident must carry insurance or will have to pay a large penalty. To get more information or to get into an affordable plan call Adam at (310) 414-2100 or email him at info@beachfinancialgroup.com.

dead-britishWe are so excited about our “Dead British” Halloween Party on Oct 31st at Bar Lubitsch (7702 Santa Monica Boulevard) This year the event is sponsored by Volkswagen Santa Monica – An LA car Guy dealership and Beltran Brito Immigration Attorneys. We will have a best dressed competition, a really cool photo-booth, pizza, nibbly-bits and a free special Halloween cocktail with each ticket. We are a hop, skip and jump from the the West Hollywood parade too which, if you’ve never done before, is a must-do – you can always come back. Adults in LA go all out – who says dress up is just for kids? And if our last party was anything to go by, ours is sure to be the best party in town. Tickets are only $25 and are on sale at https://deadbritish2.eventbrite.com. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Till then have a great week and keep calm and carry on!
