THE LOCAL British community was out in force last Friday (December 13th) for the 54th Annual British American Business Council Christmas Luncheon. This event is widely considered to be THE highlight of the year for the British expat business community, and this year was no exception, with a wonderful event at the Miramar Sheraton Hotel in Santa Monica.
Attendees enjoyed a champagne reception and strains of old favorites from a bagpiper, followed by a traditional English Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, traditional English Christmas crackers and Christmas pudding.
As usual there were a myriad of great items to bid for in the silent auction, plus some terrific prizes in the raffle.
Guest of honor and speaker at the event was none other than Sarah Ferguson, former wife of Prince Andrew and mothers to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Among the other bigwigs in attendance were Carlos Amezcua, until recently the longtime news anchor on local TV channel KTTV Channel 11, musician and producer Peter Asher (brother of Jane and one half of seminal 1960s duo Peter and Gordon) TV host and broadcaster Ross King, and the recently-installed Consul-General, Chris O’Connor.
