Meet Laura Harbron from St. Louis, MO who moved to LA about three years ago to pursue television writing and comedy.
Was there a particular reason you chose LA?
Yes! I wanted to get into television, so I knew I needed to come out to LA to achieve my goals.
What one thing do you miss from home?
Toasted raviolis. They’re the most amazing food in the world and they only exist in St. Louis. It’s basically breaded and fried raviolis with meat inside. And you dip them in marinara sauce. Trust me, they’re fantastic.
What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus the Midwest?
Life in LA is definitely more exciting than back home. More people, bigger city. It’s just a different state of mind. I will always love St. Louis – it’s a really fun place with its own charms, but there’s something about LA. The whole city is filled with new opportunities.
Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?
Yes. I know the location of the best taco truck in the city: Leo’s Taco Truck. It’s parked in the gas station at the corner of Venice and La Brea (across from the Taco Bell). $1 tacos and they’re just amazing. Like beyond good, authentic tacos. Get the Al Pastor tacos – they have a huge spit that they slice the meat from on the spot, and then they add a little fresh pineapple on top. Delicious.
What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?
Stop thinking about it and just move here already! Seriously, it’s definitely a big move to make, but it’s worth it. Plus, finding a job becomes 100 times easier once you actually live in the city. LA is a great city and Brits in LA is a wonderful group ready to help you out during your transition. There’s already a support system in place, so do it! If you’re not a member of Brits in LA yet, join them on Facebook.
