The Broad Stage in Santa Monica is presenting a wonderful new take on the Shakespeare romantic comedy classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream, from April 3rd to 19th.
Directed by Tom Morris, the Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic and creator of the Tony Award-winning War Horse and Cape Town’s Handspring Puppet Company, A Midsummer Night’s Dream unfurls in the wooded ambiance of The Broad Stage, interweaving the lives of lovers, actors, foes and fairies in a timeless tale of love, transformation, survival and song.
Written between 1590 and 1596, the play portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.
The show features a variety of matinee and evening performances and tickets start from as low as $47. To book your tickets call 310/434-3200 or visit www.thebroadstage.com
