The American Humane Association (AHA) held its official reception for its annual Hero Dog Awards at swanky bar and restaurant SUR in West Hollywood Wednesday night.

Transplanted Brits Lisa Vanderpump and hubby Ken Todd wwere all smiles as they celebrated with an abundance of champagne cocktails and some of finest canapés at the reception hosted by the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa and her adorable little fluffy dog Giggy.

SUR Lounge is also the home for Lisa’s popular spin-off series Vanderpump Rules, and boy did Lisa “rule” at the party!

It’s quite amazing to see how Lisa has risen up the ranks to become one of Tinseltown’s most prominent British expats; people were literally lining up to have their picture taken with the beautiful star. At one point it felt like I was in Madame Tussauds! Even I got to pose with Ken, and West Hollywood’s most famous Giggy!

One obvious face on hand was ex-Miss Great Britain turned fashion designer Leilani Dowding, who is well known for her love for animals with her three dogs, Di-Oh-Gi, Milo and Norman, not to mention her Warmblood horse Elante.

The former Page 3 beauty told me that she couldn’t think of a worthier event than this to attend, with its subject so dear to her heart. She personally thanked the AHA CEO Robin Ganzert and Chief Innovation Officer Paul Raybould for inviting her to support such a worthy cause.

The Hero Dog Awards™ were created in 2010 to celebrate the remarkable bond between dogs and people. The awards starts off as an annual national competition to search out and recognize America’s Hero Dogs, who unconditionally avail themselves to us in so many important ways, whether it’s saving lives on the battlefield, lending sight or hearing to a human companion, providing therapeutic support to children suffering from cancer, or just greeting us with a wagging tail at the end of a hard day.

Heroic hounds may be nominated by anyone at least 18 years of age in one of eight categories: Law Enforcement Dogs; Arson Dogs; Service Dogs; Therapy Dogs; Military Dogs; Guide & Hearing Dogs; Search and Rescue Dogs; and Emerging Hero Dogs (for ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things or are just heroes to us).

Lisa Vanderpump told the British Weekly: “It’s all about the dogs tonight, not Hollywood or its celebrities, these dogs are true heroes.

“When you meet these dogs it’s hard to understand for instance how these amazing creatures can predict seizures ten minutes before they occur when the owners didn’t have an inkling. Or how they can sense there is a body under the water. It’s truly incredible and I am honored to be involved in this amazing event.”
