He previously admitted that he was nervous stepping into Matt Smith’s shoes, but Peter Capaldi looked more than confident as he filmed his latest dramatic scenes for Doctor Who in Cardiff earlier this week.
The photos from the new series just keep on coming, showing 55-year-old actor Capaldi getting to grips with his inner Time Lord looking rather bemused as he handles his Sonic Screwdriver in the latest batch of pap-snaps.
The Scottish actor, who has been filming his first full episodes of the show following his official debut at Christmas, went it alone as he wielded the infamous gadget around the Cardiff set.
Later shots suggested that he would be using the device against a sinister blue-eyed alien, played by series regular Jimmy Vee.
However, there was no sign of co-star Jenna Coleman – who plays sidekick Clara Oswald – or the creepy looking new monster which was spotted on-set last week.
Speaking about what fans can expect from Capaldi’s portrayal of the iconic character, the show’s executive producer Steven Moffat said: “Scottishness. I think that’s the main thing.
“I mean watching him, and I just watched episode two actually, you don’t go around thinking this is an older bloke as The Doctor, particularly.
“You just think my God, he’s Scottish. And doomed dialogue doesn’t half sound great in Scottish. You say the world’s about to end in a Scottish accent, and you really believe it.”
Filming for the new episodes kicked off in January, with the series expected to air in late summer, while Moffat recently confirmed that series nine would air uninterrupted in 2015.
