ACTOR Damian Lewis has been branded a pedigree chump — for saying Yorkshire Terriers should be used as TOILET BRUSHES (poor little things)!
The fur started to fly at the Yorkie stall at the world-famous Crufts dog show at the Birmingham NEC last month when Lewis, an alleged dog lover, sent ripples of rage and indignation through the small yappy-type dog-loving world by insulting Yorkshire Terriers.
Lewis, best known for his role as Nicholas Brody in the hit US show Homeland, told an attendee: “We like lots of different breeds. We grew up with border terriers, I’m partial to a border terrier.
“We like pugs, we like spaniels, it’s all to play for.”
But then it all turned into doggy horror when was asked about Yorkshire Terriers, Lewis said:“Yorkies? No. Stick up their bum and use them as a toilet brush.”
The Yorkshire Terrier Society, who overheard Lewis, said: “I was stunned. It’s not what you expect to hear from a dog lover at Crufts. It’s a “total insult”.
A Peta spokesperson spoke out: “Yorkies have enriched people’s lives at least as much as Homeland.”
They said: “Damian Lewis won’t get an Emmy for sensitivity, but he gets a raspberry for non-PC jokes about Yorkies.”
Since his remark, Lewis has been part of a backlash from animal rights campaigners the world over…
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “We are sure Damian was joking and wouldn’t really dream of actually doing something that cruel.”
Many have come to the breed’s defense online saying Yorkies are lovely little cheery dogs that make excellent pets.
