BRITWEEK events are not limited to just Los Angeles and Orange Counties. The growing British presence a little to the north can also get in on the act with a “BritWeekend” scheduled next weekend (April 26-27th, from 11am-5pm) in the Channel Islands Harbor in Ventura County.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will highlight British culture, art, music, high tea, swordplay and Shakespeare, classic cars and motorcycles, soccer, food and an Open Air Pub Garden. The Channel Islands Maritime Museum hosts this event, which complements their international collection of five centuries of art that sails, including a very large selection of magnificent British ship models with an entire section devoted to Lord Nelson and HMS Victory.
Activities will include a chance to win a two-year Jaguar lease courtesy of Ventura Jaguar; test drives of Jags and Range Rovers; a classic British car and motorcycle show Saturday and Sunday; an open air Pub Garden with beer and a variety of English food, British and Indian food trucks, a large display of of English art and ship models inside the Museum, British cover band Masters of the Past on Saturday and Saturday, high tea with a gorgeous harbor view on Sunday afternoon featuring a dramatic interlude with characters from the event’s own “Downton Abbey”, a soccer display by the Ventura Fusion, silent auction of local and British items and adventures, and local British Culture Exhibits and Performances (Swords, Scottish Highlanders, and Shakespeare).
Channel Islands Harbor is a combined shore-protection project and small craft harbor located at the southern end of the Santa Barbara Channel in the town of Oxnard, about an hour’s drive north of Los Angeles.
