Awarded with the 2011 Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, Richard Ellis, is also a member of the Thirty Meter Telescope’s (TMT) Board of Directors and Science Advisory Committee. He will address the progress and challenges of this fundamental quest for our origins, and discuss the future prospects with the next generation of giant 30 meter aperture ground-based telescopes.
