Ice cold in LA… and movies in creepy places…

HEY BREEPS!

Feeling the heat yet? Then you might want to try freezing this summer. Seriously freeze your buns off with Cryo -The latest craze to hit LA. My friends Carlos Leon and Maria Elena Infantino took me last Friday, and it was the perfect antidote to combat the heat and a slight hangover., plus with its healing and anti-aging properties, I was set for the day – In fact it took at least three hours for my bum to warm up.

“Recover…Rejuvenate…Revitalize” is their slogan and it promises just that. In fact there were three basketball players from the Clippers in there breezing in as if it were a sauna. One talking about how it had healed his torn shoulder completely. I’m a serious wuss when it comes to the cold, I mean why did I move to LA for goodness sake? – My Dad worked as a butcher, when I was growing up and I used to have a recurring nightmare that I’d get trapped in the deep freeze with only hanging carcasses as friends. – Well luckily at Cryo Healthcare (www. cryohealthcare.com) there is a bevy of qualified staff to make sure that doesn’t happen. I should at this stage point out that this type of “health care” isn’t covered by health insurance. (YET.) Instead treat it like going to to the tanning salon, as they offer special packages to suit your needs – prices range from $65 a session (2 mins) up to an unlimited package of $499 a month.

Of course the price is not cheap and the results remain to be seen. However it sort of makes sense to me, when you think about where bacteria and disease live; in the heat and humidity. So freezing therapy seems likely to have the opposite effect. (Don’t quote me, I’m not a doctor. Seek proper medical advice for all ailments. May suffer frostbite or loss of a nose if you stay in too long. ;-))

One other fun way to cool off this summer is by visiting one of the many water parks they have here in Los Angeles. Just ‘google’ Hurricane Harbor” or ‘Raging Waters’ and a slew of locations will come up. These rides are getting bigger and scarier each year, and so are perfect for the thrill and the sun chasers out there.

And as the warmer weather waves upon us one of my favorite things to do is to visit the Hollywood Forever cemetery, located on Santa Monica Boulevard just east of Gower. Before you think me morbid or a member of the Adams family let me tell you about the Cinespia screenings and you may want to join in some night crawling activities. Launched in 2008, Cinespia show films from the 1930s through the 1990s, mostly in al fresco settings. The brainchild of John Wyatt, a film and TV set designer who formed an Italian cinema club with friend Richard Petit, both of whom worked with designer Brad Dunning in the restoration of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. John thought showing a 35mm print of the Hitchcock classic “Strangers On A Train” – projected onto the side of the cemetery’s mausoleum – which holds the remains of Rudolf Valentino, among others.

Last chance: next weekend will see the last performances of The Vortex

The event proved to be such a huge success that John and Richard have created a whole summer series. Watchers are encouraged to come early, picnic, drink wine, and dance (if they like) to a DJ as the sun sets. But as soon as the night creeps up, it all gets quite serious. “Shhhhhhh!” As these people take their movies very seriously. And with good reason, it’s not often you get to see these classics on the big screen, if at all. It’s a great way to socialize, get out and do something quite different. I would recommend booking online though. And try to leave the car behind if you’re planning to imbibe.

This season kicks off with “National Lampoon’s Vacation” starring Chevy Chase and directed by the late, great Harold Ramis. I love this film, but think European Vacation is slightly better, not just for the obvious reasons. Other upcoming movies are Jaws, Seven, Almost Famous and Rear Window. We are gearing up for our World Cup HQ and have partnered once again with BAFTA/LA and Mixology 101 at the Grove where we plan viewing parties similar to our highly successful 2010 event. That’s about it for now, I’m on a plane, heading to the Art Of Brooklyn Film Festival to screen my film “Pepper” written by and co-directed with Marc Cleary, Executive Produced by Michael Di Girolamo and the film’s star, Scott Kaske. Brits in Brooklyn. We are taking over!
