Here’s something that should cause a geek frenzy far and wide… Doctor Who star Matt Smith has officially been cast in the reboot of the hugely successful Terminator franchise -Terminator: Genesis!
Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are setting up the last major piece of the final trilogy of Terminator films and I hear, Smith, who memorably played The Doctor in the hit BBC Sci-Fi drama, has landed a major role that will grow in the second and third films. So, I reckon he’ll be will be swapping the Tardis and sonic screwdriver for what we’re guessing will be plenty of machine guns and ammo, eh?
Oo-er!
The well-guarded secret that Smith would be joining the new blockbuster project was kept well under wraps, but finally Skydance confirmed the news via Twitter last week, saying: “We don’t have a TARDIS, but we do have a Time Lord: we’re pleased to welcome Matt Smith to the cast of #Terminator.”
Alongside the film’s star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reprises his signature cyborg, Smith will join Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke who will play Sara Connor and Zero Dark Thirty star Jason Clarke who’ll play her son John.
Since leaving Doctor Who, Matt played the leading role in the musical version of American Psycho and will next be seen on the big screen in Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut, Lost River.
The time-travel saga “Terminator: Genesis” is directed by Alan Taylor and scheduled to be released July 1, 2015.
