Lift the June gloom…with our World Cup viewing room

Hi Everyone –

Can you believe we are almost half way through the year!! I find it hard to keep track of time when we don’t have real seasons. But as soon as the days start off cloudy and grey, my mental calendar reminds me that May Gray – to be followed by June Gloom – is upon us. It really does happen like clockwork! The lack of ‘proper’ seasonal weather in Los Angeles may contribute to the Peter Pan attitude a lot of us seem to have. It is quite hard to grow old if time stands still.

CAROLINE-FERADAYThe great thing about feeling forever young is you keep that ‘Can Do’ mentality. So what if you are a television presenter, its okay to try out stand up comedy à la Caroline Feraday, who has done just that. She also happens to be performing at Rain (12215 Ventura Blvd, CA 91604) in Studio City this Saturday, May 31st if you fancy checking her out. Then we have Brits in LA member, Sandro Monetti, book author and journalist, (whose name I often drop in this column). He has recently discovered his passion for acting, writing  and directing. He can be seen in ‘An Evening With Gary Lineker” at the Working Stage in Hollywood on June 1st (SOLD OUT) and June 8th (some still tickets available). Hop over to our Meet A Member section as his fellow castmate Lamorna Watts is featured this week.

This is all a parallel with my ongoing New Year’s  resolution to try something new every month. My mother (at the age of 81) visited Buckingham Palace for their annual garden party last week – this was a first for her, but she also made the cover of British newspaper The Times – it just goes to show whatever stage of life you are in, there are constant opportunities to either grab it with both hands. It may be easy to to say no but so much more fun to say yes!

We are only two weeks away until England’s first World Cup match (v Italy)! We have a great venue to watch – we have partnered up with BAFTA Los Angeles and Mixology/Planet Dailies. We picked a central location at the Farmers Market on Third St. This will be our home for the tournament. 34 screens and two areas – which is even more perfect when there are simultaneous matches showing. Kids are welcome and if football isn’t your other half’s cup of tea, there are plenty of other things to do at the Grove. Cost Plus is across the street and they stock a variety of British groceries and Top Shop is adjacent, so significant others can always support England in a different way if they choose. Full details are available on our website www.Britsin.LA

Our weekly events Pub Quiz and Breakfast Club will continue through the football season but our weekly Sunday Roast at Palihouse will be put on hold, as we are thinking positively and assuming England will go through to the quarter finals!

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to drop us a line at info@britsin.la

Cheers!
