Meet Elizabeth Arends from Southport, who moved to LA in November 2013 to pursue acting!
Was there a particular reason you chose LA?
Well a few things – I have always wanted to live somewhere hot… I HATE being cold! Also all my Granny’s sisters (6 of them) moved out here many years ago, but my Gran didn’t as she was already married. And I had heard so many things about America from them growing up. And the Icing on the Cake was that LA is just a dream for actors, everyone here is an artist and it is totally geared towards us! Which is fantastic really!
What one thing do you miss from home?
Well apart from the obvious close friends and family, I miss poppadoms and good Indian food! Not found anywhere yet up to standard…If anyone knows… let me know too! (I lived in the Midlands so my standards are on the high side!)
What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus the UK?
The positivity…There is a CAN DO attitude here which is fantastic and why the hell not? I still love England but I do feel I like to surround myself with positivity and people who wish each other well.
Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?
‘The Alcove’ Café on Hillhurst! Amazing food, drinks, café, bar…I practically live there with my two doggies (which I have recently got from ‘StarPaws Rescue’ FYI– a fantastic Doggie Adoption and Foster place for anyone interested in joining the gang!)
What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?
Save up a good amount of cash before you do! Life is expensive…it’s the sunshine tax! Get as prepared as possible so you can hit the ground running and go for it! It’s things you don’t do in life you regret … NOT the things you do.
