Only a week ago we were praising the idea of Christian Bale playing Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in Danny Boyle’s upcoming biopic of the tech pioneer…
But now it appears Christian has ‘Baled’ – and the new frontrunner for the role is X-Men star Michael Fassbender.
Oo-er!
It was reported Monday that Bale had been conflicted about playing the high-tech whiz and decided that, after a lot of going back and forth, it was best he bow out of the project as he wasn’t the right fit for the role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Dark Knight star has decided he wasn’t the right person to play Jobs, which was expected to begin shooting this winter.
It’s unknown whether Bale’s departure will affect the recently announced casting of Seth Rogen as Jobs’ former business partner and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, which has yet to be confirmed.
Bale is the second actor to pass on the role after previous frontrunner Leonardo DiCaprio left the project in October.
“We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale,” said screenwriter Aaron Sorkin of Bale a few weeks ago. “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”
Said to be structured around three of the high-profile presentations of Apple products that Jobs was famous for, the biopic’s script was penned by Sorkin and is based on Walter Isaacson’s 2013 biography of Jobs.
The new version, in contrast, will focus mostly on three major speeches Jobs gave during his career.
Jobs – who died in 2011 from pancreatic cancer – gained a reputation as an excellent speaker, in addition to his work in creating and then transforming Apple Computers.
Or should I say re-booting?
