After starring in several sequels, from Crank: High Voltage to The Transporter trilogy, not to mention next spring’s Furious 7, British star Jason Statham has found yet another for his filmography.
I hear that that Lionsgate has set Mechanic: Resurrection for release on January 22nd, 2016. The first film, The Mechanic, focused on Statham as “mechanic” Arthur Bishop, an elite assassin with a strict code and an ability to make kills look like accidents.
When Bishop’s mentor is killed, he took on his son played by Ben Foster, as an apprentice and set out for revenge. So what’s the sequel about now?
This time around, Statham’s character Bishop is trying to live the quiet life after faking his death at the end of the first film, but his retirement probably won’t last long.
Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones, who basically cancel each other out when it comes to talent, will join Statham, along with Michelle Yeoh. However, if Jones is playing the villain in the action thriller, then that sounds awesome.
Mechanic: Resurrection is being directed by Dennis Gansel, and will focus on Statham’s character, Bullets Gunpunch (a.k.a. Arthur Bishop), as he seeks to kill some of the world’s most dangerous men. The script is by Philip Shelby, Tony Mosher, Rachel Long and Brian Pittman, and production is already underway in Thailand.
There’s no word yet on what roles Jones, Yeoh, and Alba will be playing in the film, although we’d love to see Jones stretch himself and play a steely-eyed sarcastic mentor type for once.
Can’t wait for this one!
