Meet Adam Beach, originally from Exeter in Devon, who moved to LA eight years ago
Was there a particular reason you chose LA?
I used to visit California at least once a year because I loved the vibe and energy of the city as well as the great surf and sunshine, of course. Once I was offered a job opportunity here about eight years ago, it really sealed the deal. I launched Beach Financial Group shortly after and was lucky enough to build close relationships with Brits in LA members. It can be a bit of a culture shock when settling in so I wanted to help other British expats make the transition a bit easier, especially when it comes to finance and insurance. It can all be a pretty daunting, I wanted to be a resource and really share my knowledge and experience in the industry.
What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Exeter?
It is a huge city compared to the West Country where I grew up. It can be a bit isolating as well as LA is so spread out which is why I think Brits in LA has done such an amazing job of creating a close-knit community that feels like a home away from home.
What one thing do you miss from home?
Sunday Roasts with my family and friends.
Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?
The Beach Financial Group office is located in the heart of downtown El Segundo, which is really up-and-coming. Lots of creative office spaces and lofts popping up. There is also an El Segundo Museum of Art (Related to LACMA) and on Richmond Street there are a few hole-in-the-wall dive bars and restaurants. No big chains so it feels a bit like California in the 1960s.
What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?
Do it! No matter what, it’s going to be an interesting experience. And you will never find Indian cuisine that comes close to back home but the Mexican is not a bad tradeoff!
