Two 1980s icon playing local gigs

Two British musical icons of the 1980s are performing locally next month with a mixture of old and new material.

Lloyd Cole

Singer-songwriter Lloyd Cole, who shot to fame with his band The Commotions in 1984, and enjoyed considerable success throughout the decade before going solo, is playing at Largo at the Coronet, 366 N. La Cienega Boulevard on Sat. Feb. 7th. Doors open at 7pm for the 8pm show. Tickets priced at $35 now on sale at ticketfly.com

Cole is an interesting character who, after splitting with the Commotions relocated to New York City. He now lives in Easthampton, Massachussetts, with his wife and two sons. He is known an avid golfer with a very low handicap and his known for scheduling gigs suspiciously close to famous golf courses. His most recent album, Standards, was released in 2013.

Then there’s Billy Idol, perhaps more of an icon than Cole and certainly more of a staple on mainstream radio. The former punk rocker, who first came to attention as the frontman of Generation X before enjoying a successful solo career, is touring the USA and Canada as part of his Kings and Queens of the Underground Tour and is playing the Wiltern Theatre on Wed. Feb. 18th. For tickets visit concerts.livenation.com
