For the past 16 years, Vinnie Jones has been Hollywood’s go-to British tough guy. Starting with Guy Ritchie‘s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998, Jones has been beating guys up with a British accent for years. Now, he is starring as King Richard’s loyal enforcer on ABC’s comedy Galavant; just don’t tell him it’s a musical comedy.
The Brit’s new role sees him featured alongside several other famous names including Joshua Sasse, Timothy Omundson and Karen David.
Already the show has received a number of favorable reviews, including one from Variety, which said it ‘largely overcomes the challenges that have traditionally bedeviled TV musicals’.
In the series the former footballer takes a step out of his comfort zone to his co-stars amazement by showing off his fancy footwork with his ballet skills… Who knew?!
Co-star Karen David said that to see the 50-year-old former footballer singing and dancing is really something special, as people don’t see him do that every day so it’s a real treat.
She said: “To see Vinnie Jones singing and dancing is really something special. You don’t see him do that every day so it’s a real treat, trust me.
“Vinnie is so sweet. I know he’s got a bit of a tough exterior and all that, but he’s got the biggest, softest heart.”
The 35-year-old actress added that they’re so used to Jones the big football star, who found fame as a tough-tackling midfielder for Wimbledon FC in the mid-80s, and now they’re seeing him doing a bit of twerk! Oo-er…
And that’s without even mentioning that apparently Jones is even more than capable of carrying a tune… Vinnie Jones the singer? Nah….
The eight-episode season opened with a double bill and its first series and concluded last Sunday.
I can’t wait for the next installment…come back soon Galavant, we miss you already!
