Billy Zane, filmmaker Amanda Eliasch, Lady Victoria Hervey, Jacqueline Bisset, Paul Oakenfold, Lord Freddie Windsor, BritWeek director Sharon Harroun Peirce and co-founder Nigel Lythgoe kicked off the BritWeek program by celebrating British contributions in science fiction.

Lythgoe told British Weekly, “Every year, BritWeek’s program changes and evolves, but this year it is by far one of the most exciting with something for everyone.”

Of course being a huge sci-fi buff myself I was in my element at this year’s bash, when I arrived I got to walk into the Tardis, was greeted by a Tom Baker, Doctor Who look-a-like and even I hugged a Dalek…

One-of-a-kind Doctor Who costumes were on display as guests sipped on science fiction-inspired cocktails from No.3 London Dry Gin and Belvoir and snapped pics in Walkers Shortbread’s Star-Trek inspired photo booth.  Sponsors of the event included Battersea Power Station, BBC Worldwide, and the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows.

Designer Zandra Rhodes told me: “I think it’s wonderful, most of us are people that love being in America and stride across, so it’s really quite wonderful.”

BritWeek is a non-profit organization that hosts a program of events every Spring to promote British creativity, innovation and excellence across multiple categories including, film and television, music, art, fashion, design, retail, sport, philanthropy, business, and more. The events take place throughout Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, Orlando, San Francisco, and Miami!

Other stars at the BritWeek bash who have made a permanent move across the pond included, Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd and his actress wife Alice Evans, TV host-turned-realtor Dani Behr, film producer Julia Verdin, and actors Ben Barnes (Chronicles of Narnia) Max Ryan (Sex and the City 2 ) and Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim).

Ioan said of the event: “I think we’ve got so many of us over here in so many different industries. I think it’s great that we celebrate that synergy.”

With so many great events this year’s festival promises to be the best ever. Visit www.britweek.org for more information.
