Sunday, June 28th brings a memorial service to honor the life of Nigel Laskey, at the American Legion, 5309 Sepulveda Blvd. in Culver City from 2-5pm. All are welcome.
Laskey, a larger-than-life South Londoner passed away at 59 earlier this month.
Nigel moved to Los Angeles three decades ago and was well known within in the British community. As one local told the BW : “Once you met him, you never forgot him.” Nigel was a big man with a big personality who frequently turned heads when he walked into a bar – not least because of his cropped platinum blonde hair. Nicknamed ‘The Pope of Palms’ during his time living in Culver City, he was a regular patron of both Joxer Daly’s and The Cozy Inn, a man who loved good food, drink, conversation and music. He was also a lover of automobiles, and for a while could be seen cruising round town in his beloved Rolls Royce. As one tribute on Facebook said this week: “This funny, crazy, lovable man will be missed by so many people, close and far.”
