Hi Breeps!
Greetings from the motherland. I’m currently in London for a bit, doing some promo for Season Two of The Last Ship, the post-apocalyptic drama television series from TNT in which I play Declan.
If you haven’t yet caught the show (which you can also see on Hulu), it is based on the 1988 novel of the same name by William Brinkley. The plot in a nutshell is that a global pandemic wipes out more than 80% of the world’s population, leaving the crew of a lone US Navy destroyer, the USS Nathan James, to find a cure, stop the virus and save humanity.
There was plenty of humanity on display last week at The Grove, where TopMan and TopShop threw me a lovely going-away shopping party, benefiting UKares Foundation. Among those present were two members of our board – CEO Fiona Harden and COO Marina Paganucci (pictured). Not only was the event a lot of fun, it was in a good cause, with 10% of all proceeds going directly to the Charity. Thanks to all the Brits who came out to support us, including my shipmate Marc Rhino Smith, Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Martin Samuel, with his lovely wife Mary. And some Americans too, including Brianna Brown from the ABC show Devious Maids and some of the cast of Hulu’s first original drama, East Los High.
We are currently hard at work planning our end-of-summer fundraiser and awards reception which will be at the Hancock Park residence of Consul-General, Chris O’Connor. We have some amazing honorees, who will be announced next week. So we hope you can join us. Save the date – September 17th.
London always boasts brilliant theatre, and this week I caught a production of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers in the open air theatre in Regents Park, which was pretty spectacular, with amazing staging and performances. If you are planning to visit home make sure you try to get tickets. It’s brilliant! And I have been staying at the W Hotel in Leicester Square, which boats fantastic rooms with a hidden shower and toilet. Plus it boasts a buzzy scene every night in the hotel bar. And as an added bonus I got to meet the lovely Eamonn Holmes on Sky Sunrise on Tuesday. He’s the nicest man in Showbiz!
I’ll be here in Blighty through most of August, so will be reporting in what’s happening back home for you all. If you care to follow my antics you can follow me on Twitter @craigryoung and @britsinla.
Have a great week ahead and look forward to seeing some of you over here for the summer!
