Just days after Ed Miliband’s scruffy new look went viral, Simon Cowell has adopted his own face fuzz, which he debuted at the (UK) X Factor press launch earlier this week.
The talent show boss and usually clean-cut star showed off a full beard as he arrived in baggy jeans and a white t-shirt, dressed down in his usual white tee and jeans, Cowell rocked a new salt-and-pepper beard as he smiled for the cameras…but then if anyone can get away with under-dressing it’s good ol’ Si’. I have to say he wears it pretty well!
His new stubble certainly gives him an edge he didn’t have before – we know and love him as the high-waistband sporting, chest-baring straight talker of The X Factor, not the cool beardy one. Look how resplendent it is!
While fellow judges Nick Grimshaw and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini looked like they’d pulled out all the stops with their smart outfits, Cowell wore baggy bootcut jeans and a loose white T-shirt. The fourth panellist, Rita Ora, is currently on a promotional tour in America and had to miss the launch.
Speaking on stage at the launch event at the new Picturehouse Central Cinema, the music mogul claimed that he was growing a beard in a bid to ‘go back to his roots’ before admitting that he just couldn’t be ‘bothered to shave.’
Insisting that it wasn’t an attempt to be ‘down with the kids’, Cowell described his new beard as a symbol of his ‘sense of freedom.’ He told press: “I actually got lazy while I was on holiday and I thought I’d keep it. I’m sure it will come off in about a week.”
How hipster of you, Simon… I wonder if that heavy stubble is here to stay? I reckon it should!
