Just as Ridley Scott revealed the name of the next ‘Prometheus’ instalment, a flood of new information has just hit the internet.

The film, retitled ‘Alien: Covenant’ (originally Alien: Lost Paradise), now has an official logo and synopsis from 20th Century Fox confirming Michael Fassbender will return for the movie.
The studio’s description reads: “Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus – and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction.
“Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world – whose sole inhabitant is the ‘synthetic’ David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
Notably, Noomi Rapace‘s explorer Elizabeth Shaw is not mentioned although she was last seen alive in Prometheus.
The description also confirms there will be another film after Covenant, making up a full prequel trilogy linking directly to the original Alien.
Scott previously said that the first sequel would not lead straight into the original, but that it would take time for the series to explain what happened.
He said at the time: “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”
The Bladerunner director also revealed there could possibly be three sequels to Prometheus, but it now seem there will be just two.
Neil Blomkamp, who was to direct a sequel to ‘Aliens‘ – ignoring both Alien 3 and 4 – has said his project has been put on hold while work goes ahead on Covenant.
