This weekend marks the last chance to see a great local play with a strong British theme, as The Game’s Afoot or Holmes For the Holidays enters its final weekend at the Pierson Playhouse in Pacific Palisades.

The play is set in December 1936 and stars British actor John Mawson (well known to Brits in LA members) as Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, who has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears.

Directed by by Ken Ludwig and also starring Gail Bernardi, Matthew Godfrey, Nicole Knudsen, James Lujan, Maria Pavone, Maggie Peach, and Andi Wagner, the play is described as ‘an inspired and hilarious alternative to the usual holiday entertainment.’

The Pierson Playhouse is located at 941 Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades. Tickets are priced at $20 for adults and $18 for seniors and students. Box office can be reached at (310) 454-1970 or order tickets online by visiting www.plays411.net/holmes.
