Forget a breakup playlist – Adele just offered Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie a full-fledged concert.
The woman behind emotional hits like “Set Fire to the Rain,” “Someone Like You” and “Don’t You Remember” put on a show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden this week that doubled as a live ode to Brangelina.
The longtime celebrity couple shocked the showbiz world earlier this week when news broke of Jolie’s filing for divorce. The Oscar winner requested joint legal custody, but sole physical custody of the couple’s six children. According to the legal documents, she also requested that Pitt be granted visitation rights.
As Tuesday night’s concert attendees reported on Twitter, the British songstress (who has recently overcome serious stage fright) announced to the crowd that she was dedicating the show to the “elephant in the room,” calling the split the “end of an era.”
She addressed the crowd with, “are you up for a good time?” before explaining, “Well, you’ve come the wrong place… It’s two hours of misery. Two hours of egotistical songs about moi and my ex-boyfriends.”
She told the packed stadium, “I’m dedicating this show tonight to them,” In between songs she added, “I don’t know them personally, but it feels like the end of an era,” she said to the crowd.
“I was shocked when I woke up this morning.”
The dedicated festivities didn’t end there. Fans in attendance at the star’s New York show quickly took to social media to share the pop star’s remarks. One fan wrote on Twitter: “Now #Adele is leading us all in a group Brad and Ange’ breakup therapy session. Also, there are songs.”
It has to be said, Adele isn’t wrong in saying her songs are the weepy and heartbroken, she has forged a record-breaking career based off of her own bumpy experiences in love.
Hopefully, with time – and the help of Adele’s tunes – this split will one day be water under the bridge.
