You could almost hear the sound of Cheryl Tweedy skipping with joy after she was finally granted a divorce from Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini this week.
The couple have obtained a “decree nisi in their divorce proceedings”, a spokesman for the Fight For This Love singer has confirmed. Chezza and Jean-Bernard tied the knot two years ago after just three months of dating.
However, their marriage came to a shock ending after just 18 months, with the former Girls Aloud singer splitting from the French hunk in January this year.
It later emerged that she started dating One Direction‘s Liam Payne in December, with their romance going public a month after her separation announcement.
And this week a court ruled that they could see no reason not to grant a divorce to Cheryl and JB.
It is believed Cheryl cited “irreconcilable differences” and no financial settlement has been made between the two, according to reports.
A source previously told The Sun Newspaper: “This has been the result of months of negotiations, but Cheryl and JB reached an agreement two months ago. And there has been no financial settlement. Lots of wild figures have been thrown about, but that is the truth, as the documents will show, that JB
is not going to be paid any money by Cheryl.”
The 33-year-old shocked fans after announcing that she had married the French businessman with an Instagram post in July 2014. The pair tied the knot on the exotic island of Mustique.
However, it was reported that the couple struggled with the language barrier, while Simon Cowell claimed Jean-Bernard’s behaviour was “out of order” while visiting his wife on the X Factor TV show.
This divorce is sure to spark rumours of an upcoming wedding to Payne. The duo have been inseparable since hooking up – and fans even think that Cheryl is pregnant.
The Geordie babe has been seen sporting what appears to be a bump, while Directioners thought that a recent hashtag congratulating Liam on a new record deal was confirming the pregnancy news.
