Hit writers Harry Williams and Jack Williams have enticed sexy British actress Kate Beckinsale with an “ambitious” new script.
The Underworld and Love & Friendship star Beckinsale will take the lead in the new ITV/Amazon Prime Video production called The Widow.
Oo-er!
The daughter of the late Porridge actor Richard Beckinsale will play Georgia Wells, who has her life turned upside-down with a telephone call in the middle of the night.
Her husband of more than 10 years, Will, is reported dead after a plane crash in the jungles of Africa.
Some three years later, Georgia learns something shocking about the disappearance of her spouse.
Believing he may now be alive, she heads to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in an attempt to uncover the truth.
One of the industry’s hottest writing duos, the Williams brothers said 44-year-old Kate was “perfect” for their gripping storyline, which starts filming later this year.
Jack added: “The Widow is our most ambitious and cinematic piece to date.”
In a tribute to Kate, he said: “We could not imagine anyone more perfect for the role.”
The London-based duo shot to fame after writing the gripping British crime drama The Missing, and the hilarious Fleabag, which followed the dating misadventures of a single woman in London. (The Missing was seen on these shores on Starz, while Fleabag can be streamed on Amazon). Among their other UK TV hits are Liar, Rellik, White Dragon and The Widow.
The pair have a history of getting big names on board for their dramas.
They signed Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt for Liar, bagged James Nesbitt, Keeley Hawes and David Morrissey for The Missing and lured Games Of Thrones’ Richard Dormer for Rellik.
This is a great start to the year for Kate, who is personally one of my favorites!
