WITH A certain wedding just a week away, royal fever has taken hold locally and local independent public television channel KCET will mark the occasion with two Brit-themed programs leading up to the wedding of Prince Harry to American actress Meghan Markle.
The night before the big day, Friday, May 18th at 7pm KCET will air THE QUEEN AT 90, an affectionate look at Her Majesty’s 90th birthday in April 2016 which was a huge personal milestone. This film includes contributions from those who know the Queen, featuring many ordinary people as well as members of her family – including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – and leading public figures. It also includes remarkable footage from around the world, spanning nine momentous decades.
Saturday May 19th at 6pm, KCET will air The Royal Good Guys, examining how the Royal Family has become one of the UK’s most lucrative tourist attractions – and at the good works they actually do. From Princess Diana’s campaign against landmines to Prince Harry’s work with HIV-positive children in Africa, the film explores the royal family’s philanthropic efforts around the world.
KCET was one of the charter members of the nationwide PBS network until financial and programming disputes led them to separate from PBS in 2010 to become the nation’s largest independent public TV channel. They continue to broadcast a heavy schedule of British news, comedy and drama shows, including BBC World News, Newsnight, Death in Paradise, Doc Martin, Cold Feet and much more.
