British actor John Boyega says he is “so proud” his former co-star Jodie Whittaker becoming the first female Doctor Who.
Oo-er!
The two starred alongside each other in Joe Cornish’s 2011 sci-fi film Attack the Block, in which a neighborhood is invaded by aliens.
Who knew?!
Speaking at Google’s Pixel 3 Curiosity Rooms on Friday (November 25), The Star Wars star said: “I’m so proud of her when I hear that she is the first female Doctor Who.
“That’s what I’m talking about! It’s brilliant to see a character – that can change and morph into and gain new life in search of time and history – is being revamped again.”
Whittaker became the first woman to portray the Doctor in the BBC One show’s 55-year history, and has garnered positive reactions in her debut season.
However, there’s bad news for anyone wishing to see Boyega make an appearance in an episode of the venerable show, as the actor all but dismissed the idea. But he did say he’d love to work with Whittaker again.
When one hopeful member of the audience asked him if he’d be open to the possibility, he replied: “I don’t know about Doctor Who but I would love to work with her again. Definitely. 100%.”
Earlier this year, Boyega hinted at a possible time jump for Star Wars: Episode 9. The actor stated that he’d be growing out his hair for the role of Finn, which could suggest a significant amount of time has passed since the events of The Last Jedi.
