First off, a massive thank you to everyone who came out for Sandro’s Birthday Pub Quiz this week. The Cat & Fiddle was jammed to standing room only; we adore Sandro, so it was lovely to see that so many of you appreciate him too. He is off for the holidays so our very own Craig Robert Young will be standing in as quizmaster next week and hosting our last trivia night of 2018. Dig your ugly sweaters out as The Cat & Fiddle will be awarding a bottle of Jamesons Irish Caskmate Stout to the best/worst one!
So join us next Tuesday December 18th – start time is 8pm but we recommend getting there by 7.40 to get settled. Don’t be hesitant to come alone as we will find you a team to join.
Since Christmas falls on Tuesday this year there are no further Breakfast Clubs or Pub Quizzes until January 8th.
We still have our Brits in LA Christmas Party to look forward to though. Tickets are only $10 and includes a welcome drink from Silent Pool Gin. The bash is scheduled for Monday December 17th at the No More Heroes Cocktail Bar in West Hollywood. Lots of metered street parking available but if you are planning on drinking just take a taxi! We won’t be serving food at this one, so suggest you grab a bite to eat before or after. There are lots of great restaurants nearby, including Barbette (owned by our friends who started The Pikey) and the popular fast food joint Astroburger. Get your dancing shoes on as we will be playing all the British Christmas Classics.
For further details visit www.britsin.la or email us at info@britsin.l Please note this is a 21+ event.
We are collecting unwrapped toys for local charity Adopt a Letter again this year. Founder Kimberly Moore collects ‘Letters to Santa ‘ from underprivileged children who live in the LA area and then tries her best to fulfill their wishes. I’ve been on delivery runs with Kimberly in the past and it really is the most humbling experience. She will be posting the letters on AdoptALetter.org over the next few days and will be trying to raise money to help fulfill the many requests. So if you have any spare cash please head on over to her website. She will also need volunteers to collect donations and help to pack and deliver them too. If you want to get involved you can email us at BritsinLA@gmail.com and we will put you in touch.
To many Brits Christmas isn’t Christmas without a choir. So some of our members have joined forces and formed one. It is currently being led by long -time member Elizabeth Botsford and they finally made their much awaited debut earlier this week at The British Home retirement community in Alta Dena. If you would like to be a part of this send us a message or look for Brits in LA Choir on Facebook @BritsinLA . Don’t worry if you are not the best singer as it really is all about the taking part.
Lastly, if you haven’t heard, Craig is currently in a play. I think I have been to see every production he has appeared in since we first met and I have to say this is one of my favourites. It’s clever, funny, unique and only two more performances left . So try and catch it if you can. Titled The Black Hole, it is playing at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre, 4850 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. Tickets are available for the final two performances on December 19th and 20th. Visit https://zombiejoes.tix.com
Brits in LA member John Mawson is also in a play, coincidentally in a theater just a few doors down. It is the classic murder thriller Rope by Patrick Hamilton, set in 1920’s London, based on a true story. Alfred Hitchcock turned it into the movie of the same name. Rope is playing at the Avery Schreiber Playhouse, December 14, 15 and 16 at 8pm. For tickets visit www.roboandbash.com/rope.
I find that an evening at the theater is the perfect respite from the mayhem currently going on in the world, even if the break is all too brief.
If you have any questions or comments drop us a line.
Cheers!
Eileen
