“Hardy” any chance former EastEnders regular will return to Albert Square..
EastEnders fans were left gobsmacked earlier this week after seeing television character Peter Beale attend the 2019 Screen Actors Guid Awards.
Actor Ben Hardy, who played the much-loved BBC character, was nominated for an award at the Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood, for his role in Bohemian Rhapsody in which he plays Queen drummer, Roger Taylor. Ben was nominated for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, which is the ceremony’s equivalent of the best picture award.
Hardy has been keeping a low profile during this busy award season, allowing his “Bohemian Rhapsody” co-star, Rami Malek, to take the spotlight.
Malek has already won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of singer Freddie Mercury in the film, and is the bookies’ favorite to repeat the feat at the Oscars on February 24th.
Hardy attended the ceremony decked out in designer togs as part of the cast, however his appearance at the prestigious event stunned some soap fans watching at home. EastEnders viewers could not believe the TV star was at the event and flooded Twitter with comments about his attendance.
After seeing Ben on the red carpet, one individual wrote: “Seeing Peter Beale at award shows will never feel right to me.”
Another person penned: “I will never get past this kid being Peter Beale,” as a third said: “Awww look at Peter Beale.”(sic)
A third fan commented: “Ben Hardy will always be known to me as Peter from EastEnders and no bohrap film can change my mind.”(sic)
Fans should probably get used to seeing the 28 year old in Hollywood after getting roles in blockbusters – including Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Apocalypse – under his belt.
Last year he revealed he has ruled out a return to the long-running BBC soap.
Asked if he considered returning to Albert Square, she said: “Probably not, to be honest with you.”
I don’t blame him!
