BBC plan emergency surgery to ‘save’ Doctor Who
Top dogs at the BBC are reportedly planning to make major changes to Doctor Who ahead of its upcoming series.
British actress Jodie Whittaker took over the iconic role last year, and while her appearance was warmly received by critics, ratings for the series sadly declined over its run, leaving its loyal army of fans disappointed.
While she kicked off her debut with a massive 8.2 million viewers, by the time the final episode aired ratings had dropped to just over 5 million.
In a bid to entice viewers back, BBC bosses are apparently considering a number of changes, including plans to bring the show back to its original Saturday night time slot.
“There is a feeling families are freer to watch on Saturdays than Sundays, when kids have homework to finish,” a source told The Mirror.
“While the show rated well overall, there were concerns over the decline in audience.
“Returning to Saturdays is being discussed as a likely option.”
The new series is already being filmed, and the episodes are set to begin airing at some point in early 2020.
Despite a positive response to Jodie’s role, some fans criticised the new series for being too politically correct.
It comes after the show’s former boss claimed that Jodie would last no longer than a few years in the role.
Personally, I was hoping she would on the outs after one season!
I like Jodie Whittaker, but she is NOT Doctor Who!
