Hollywood always isn’t the easiest place to make it big… Even if you are an international pop singer…
Liam Payne found that out the hard way when he auditioned for mega-director Steven Spielberg.
Let’s just say the singer wasn’t exactly in tune with the casting folk, who screamed, “Next!” The One Direction superstar, who normally has the world at his feet, opened up about his desire to break into movies, admitting his first audition didn’t go so well when he was asked for audition for film legend Spielberg in a bid to land a role in the upcoming remake of West Side Story.
Liam said: “I’ve had a lot of [acting] lessons.
“I would love to go… I’ve had some great auditions for a couple of different things.
“The first thing I ever auditioned for was for the remake of West Side Story, which is being done by Steven Spielberg.”
In case you were wondering, West Side Story is a musical about two rival New York gangs in a modern-day take on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
The heartthrob continued: “On my last birthday I got a message saying ‘you need to go and meet Steven on Thursday.’
“I had to go and do an audition in front of him, which was quite wild.”
Admitting he wasn’t too gutted about not getting the part, the Strip That Down singer added: “I was in like the last five people for it, which I was quite happy with because it was a difficult – it was a big part in the film.
“It was the first audition I had ever done and I put four tapes in and then managed to get to meet Steven Spielberg so it was pretty amazing.
“It was like all curtained off in a big warehouse type thing and he just kind of rolled in and was like ‘Liam!’ and I was like ‘this is wild.’”
The 25-year-old said: “I’ve been doing a lot of fashion things and different acting bits and stuff so you know, it’s been quite fun.”
Insisting he isn’t turning his back on music despite delaying his debut album indefinitely, Liam added: “I am just trying to get my song book together properly at the moment and find the right things that represent me I guess.”
Better luck next time, kid!
