Rising star Jodie Comer is currently doing the press rounds for Killing Eve season two, and as well as addressing how she perfected so many brilliant accents, the actress has revealed she actually almost turned down the role of Villanelle.
Speaking to GQ Hype, the Bafta award winner revealed that when she was auditioning for the part, she read the words “female assassin” in the description of Villanelle, and made assumptions about what this meant for her character.
“I was like ‘Oh, f*** no’, because I always think of someone in a leather catsuit and six-inch heels scaling walls,” Jodie says. “Also, ‘How naked is she going to be?’… I should have known better, knowing Phoebe [Waller-Bridge] was the writer.”
Waller-Bridge, who wrote and directed season one of the acclaimed show, was too busy with the second season of her brilliant British TV show Fleabag to take the reins again on ‘Eve’, so she handed off responsibility to Call The Midwife’s Emerald Fennell. She executive produced the series instead, and Jodie says she’s keen to work with Phoebe again.
“I love her so much,” the actress continued. “I’ve said to her she has to cast me on every single thing she makes from now on. Otherwise I’ll send Villanelle!”
I would be keen for that, too!
