Well-known in Santa Monica as the genial doorman at Ye Olde King’s Head, Wayne Hodges is forging a new career as a filmmaker.
His short film, Once Upon a Woman, which he wrote, directed and in which he co-stars, is doing the rounds of film festivals and accumulating awards. It was a REMI winner at the 52nd WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, the oldest film and video festival in the world for independent filmmakers, and won Best Student Film at the Marina Del Rey Festival. And just this week the film won “Best International Short Film” at the 4th Festival Internacional de Cine sin Cines in Michoacán, Mexico.
It has currently competed in half a dozen film festivals with more to come.
Once Upon a Woman is a moody and contemplative Western, with a strong message about racism and the beginning of the end of the Old West.
It co-stars another King’s Head regular, Maurice “Mossie” Murphy, as a blacksmith who meets a violent end.
