Meet A Member: Owen Beiny

Meet Owen Beiny (The Points Partner) from North West London who moved to LA 16 years ago to pursue free travel in business class for everyone using their credit card points and air miles. After 20 years flying every day for work as a CEO, getting upgraded to beds on planes became a habit, then a hobby, then an obsession and finally now, a full time career.

Was there a particular reason you chose LA?

Going in style: Owen Beiny

I need to be around more driven people with more to achieve from life than just a job and a family. I needed to be surrounded with those who have dreams and are fully  driven.

I also, as most do, needed better weather and to be marinaded with movers and garnished with shakers.

What  do you miss most from home?

Family, friends and good old English foods like a Flake bar or HP sauce

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

I  hated LA at first… now I can’t live without it and it’s my home for life and landing at LAX puts a smile on face and warms my heart.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Northwest London?

People here are pushing their dreams 24/7, back home they are settling for the 2.4 life and a proverbial white picket fence. You do not have to live the life that your culture, movies and communities tell you that you have to.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?

I am afraid they have all closed due to COVID. However when things return to some sense of normality you simply must spend more time in Ktown and in particular the SAKE HOUSE sushi spot … that’s my go-to for my Asian food fix.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

Start working on your US credit and visa situation ASAP. You are frozen as a tourist here until you embrace the system…That means getting your driving license (again), social security, visa or green card, credit cards, bank accounts and sorry but…. TAXES !

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

You will have the highest highs here and the lowest lows…I don’t need to tell you how to have fun but I can say this about the downsides…there is no better place in the world to be depressed than Los Angeles.

Lastly, how can we find out more about you? Are you working on anything at the moment?

I help people maximize their credit card benefits & teach them how to fly in business class for FREE!

Most think that those air miles and credit card points do not amount to much and they could not be more wrong. If achieved in the correct way and used at the appropriate time, you will simply have beds on planes every time you travel.

The average person gets back around 1% of what they spend on their cards in benefits or free travel. I show people how to turn that into nearer 8% and give them all the tools needed to book their free travel for life.

As an example, if you needed a round trip in business class from LA to Paris it would cost around $8K. You could book it as a “Pay with Points” on your credit card portal and it would cost you 800,000 points !… However the way I would book that same bed would cost just 104,000.
