This past week has been a rather thrilling one for England fans hasn’t it! I don’t think anyone I spoke to honestly expected the Three Lions to win that match against Germany, but we did and 2-0 to boot! I am not going to say much more on this as don’t want to jinx it but I will be proudly wearing my England shirt for the next game.
We have put together a list of many of the bars that show the football over on our Facebook page and our blog, which can be viewed at www. Britsin.LA
I had a couple of more exciting ‘firsts’ earlier this week too. I went to the movies, for the first time since February 2020! Not just any movie, but the premiere of Amazon Studios latest offering The Tomorrow War, starring Chris Pratt. It was held outdoors at the Banc of California Stadium (the home of LAFC), the perfect location for me to dip my toes into sitting with a crowd of strangers. The film was ridiculously fun and action packed, full of monsters, explosions and big guns (both Chris Pratt’s and the weapon kind). Best of all, for a whole two hours I forgot about the craziness going on in the outside world. I highly recommend it for those of you who are looking to escape from it all for an evening – it’s available to watch on Amazon Prime from July 2nd. My favourite partner in crime and co-founder of Brits in LA, Craig Young, joined me for the evening.
We have not seen each other in person since we celebrated our birthdays at a socially distanced outdoor dinner back in October. Thanks to the speedy vaccination program we even got to hug! It was such a lovely feeling and definitely something I won’t take for granted any more.
Our friends at the British American Business Council of Los Angeles held their first in person event last week, and by all accounts it was a huge success. Sadly neither Craig nor I could make it due to work commitments but Brits in LA & BABCLA member, Frank L’e Sanford went along and reported back for us (following this column). I think we can all hear Frank’s excitement at finally being able to attend a proper party? It really does put things into perspective doesn’t it.. All of those meetings, events, hugs and celebrations we took for granted pre-pandemic are now the highlights of our lives.
Lets try and hang on to that appreciation as it is one of the only good things to come out of this catastrophic year (and a half!)
If you have any questions or comments or want to share your stories of your new adventures please drop us an email at info@britsin.la
We always love hearing from you.

The ‘Back in Business’ In-Person Garden Cocktail Party, was held in the lovely Garden of the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills last Thursday.
It was a truly wonderful evening seeing, hugging, bantering, flirting and laughing with un-masked but fully vaxxed friends, acquaintances and colleagues once again, over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
The 200 tickets sold quickly and every single one of the pent-up party-goers, seemed to relish being dressed up, mingling and having social fun once again.
We welcomed our new British Consul General, Emily Cloke and the USA Olympic Rugby Team (so what could possibly go wrong!) before they fly to Tokyo, for the Super Spreader Olympics.
Top raffle prize was two Virgin Upper Class return tickets LAX to London, won by our own Gillian Campbell, who’s so well loved, that we all cheered and the crowd were obviously delighted that she won. I’d have been even happier if I’d won, but didn’t, despite using my usual raffle-winning techniques.
What a swell party it was, and will live long in the memory, as Los Angeles’s reopening event. – Frank Le’Sanford
