Regular readers may recognize this weeks contributor and fellow Brit in LA Owen Beiny, as not only has he been featured in our Meet a Member section, but also regularly comments and posts on our Facebook forum sharing invaluable travel tips amongst our community. Eagle-eyed readers may have also spotted him recently on Good Morning America’s ‘What You Need To Know’ segment earlier this month, advising viewers on how to maximize those airmiles/ credit card points we all start to gather…but very rarely seem to be able to use.
Seeing as so many of you are frequent flyers – or planning to be now that the borders are finally opening up – we thought you would appreciate hearing from The Points Partner himself and learn a few of his tricks for getting the most out of your miles.
FLY TO BLIGHTY IN BUSINESS FOR FREE
I’m Owen Beiny – a fellow Brit in LA. I’ve lived here since 2005.
For the last 16 years I’ve been flying around the world on a flat bed using credit card points and air miles, and I have now made it my mission to help others do the same by teaching them how to maximize their credit card benefits.
As expats, we all feel that constant pull of being torn between LA and our loved ones back home. But as we all know, jetting back and forth to the UK ain’t cheap and it’s not as simple as jumping on an EasyJet flight for fifty quid.
Long Haul flights are expensive – even more now as airlines desperately try to recuperate the huge losses they incurred from the pandemic.
Imagine waking up one day and having the freedom to just pop home for a long weekend knowing it’s not only going to cost you nothing, but you get to do it in comfort and in style.
That’s exactly what I did ! During a weekly Facetime call with my mum, she moaned, “It’s all very well and good you live in LA but you can’t pop over for a cup of tea.”
Twelve hours later, I knocked on her door and said, ‘I thought I’d pop over for a cuppa.” Let’s just say it was worth the crippling jet lag and swapping the LA sunshine for the pouring rain.
I’ve ensured that living 6,000 miles away from my loved ones is that much easier – as well as being able to travel the rest of the world too.
It sounds good to be true I know, but it’s not and I can show you how. You don’t have to have a six-figure salary or have an extravagant lifestyle. It’s about spending smarter and maximizing those points and air miles.
The average American gets back under one per cent of what they spend off their credit card. If it’s done correctly, it can be closer to ten percent.
There’s a huge misconception about points. People think they’re not worth much, but if you learn how to use them correctly, they can be worth seven times the amount by transferring them to the airlines’ frequent travel programs and booking at the right prices. However you cannot win at a game if you don’t know the rules of the game. That is why I have spent 20 years reading the small print and knowing the rules.
When you fly on mileage tickets, you have to pay taxes. The UK’s airport taxes are the highest in the world, so if you fly round trip from LA to London in business class, just the taxes alone could set you back £1600. I’ve found a way round this by getting short layovers in other cities. And because you’re business class, you still get free food and drink in the comfort of a lounge. I am a single dad and when my daughter and I go back to visit family I save $3200 in taxes alone by stopping for a free omelette in Paris or Amsterdam first.
Travel shouldn’t be a burden where you’re waiting to get to your destination. You should enjoy it from the moment you leave your house by being rushed through security, enjoying luxury lounges with free food, drink and five-star service and turning left when you board the plane where you’re waited on hand and foot.
It’s simple, if you want to travel like an A-lister without the price tag, look no further and sign up for my masterclass today. Here is a 10% off discount code just for The Brits in LA. I’ll see you in Upper Class….
