Was there a particular reason you chose LA?
I am here to pursue my 18-year TV hosting career as the TV Host and Podcast Presenter for America’s Next Investment, a show that features many companies looking to raise capital. The show, has aired on CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business, it focuses on each company’s ability to strategically market to potential investors. What do you miss most from home?
Naturally, I miss my friends and family. I was fortunate to have a very tight-knit group of people in the UK and I’m going to miss spending time with them all. I’ll also miss having a decent curry!  Despite missing these things, though, I’m very pleased to be in LA. I feel like LA has so many things to give – amazing weather, customer services, restaurants, activities, the beach, the mountains and good positive entrepreneurial people around me. Ultimately, I am also excited to be able to expand my network and create exceptional business opportunities in LA.

What was your first impression of LA and has it changed since?

My wife and I visited LA in the summer of 2021. At the time, there was a fair amount of uncertainty in the atmosphere. There were many complications at immigration and restrictions as a result of Covid. Also, we knew that crime rates were high in LA, the homelessness crisis sadly was getting quite bad.

Fortunately, since relocating to LA in January, our experience has been wholly positive. Importantly, we have experienced greater levels of freedom since Covid restrictions have been lifted. On top of this, the overall vibe and energy of LA has been totally different – people seem happier and more relaxed! It has been a pleasure to be back in Hollywood, and I’m confident that it’ll only get better.

What do you find the biggest difference is living here versus Clapham?

The most obvious is the weather – LA’s weather is way better! I feel like the constant sunshine has a strong impact on everyone’s mood. I certainly do not miss London’s gloomy skies and low temperatures. Moreover, there are so many more opportunities out here, especially if you’re looking to get into the entertainment industry. Lastly, I’d say that the people in LA are certainly different. Everyone is very willing to connect and help, which is really nice when you’re trying to settle down.

Do you have a hidden gem in LA that you want to share with us?
There are certainly a few hidden gems I do not mind sharing, myself and my wife Hannah love dinning at Le Petit Four on Sunset Boulevard, great European food, fantastic staff and a wonderful vibe. If you want a nice Sunday Roast, head down to Ye Old Kings Head in Santa Monica and maybe catch a bit of the Premier League on the big screens.

What would you suggest to others who are thinking about making the move here?

If you’re looking to move to LA, it’s really important to do some research before you make the move. First and foremost, do your research about the area you want to live in. Some areas are more dangerous than others, so be sure to check out the crime rates when researching. To get a better feel for the area, speak to as many people as possible, do virtual tours of apartments, and contact sales representatives from estate agents.

Secondly, don’t just come over on a whim. Lots of people come to LA in order to become movie stars or pop stars. Though some succeed, many struggle to make things work because theylackedaplanbefore moving out. To ensure that you succeed, make sure that you have a solid sponsorship and job offer, a legitimate visa, and accommodation.

Thirdly, ensure that you have some solid savings in place. Getting settled in LA can set you back a fair few thousand dollars because you’ll have to put down a deposit on a rental apartment, buy a car, sort your driving license, social security and health insurance, and so on. With this being the case, it’s really important that you’re both willing and able to spend some money to get yourself established.

Next, if you’re interested in the talent/ entertainment industry, make sure that all of your personal marketing is up to scratch. More specifically, be sure to have an updated resume, stunning showreel, and active social media accounts. Furthermore, consider joining organisations like IMDB, Brits InLA, HostsInLA, The Supper Club, and Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce. If you can do all of this, then you’ll instantly increase your chances of landing your dream job!

Finally, I’d recommend getting rid of all your clutter. You’ll have plenty of clothes that you won’t wear and stuff lying around the house that you won’t use. The best thing to do is get rid of it and have a fresh start. LA is a very relaxed and warm environment, so you’ll have the freedom to dress and be as casual as you like. With that being said, bring as many British condiments and snacks as possible – baked beans, gravy, Marmite and Cadbury’s chocolate can be hard to find out here!

Lots of our members join our group Brits in LA seeking out words of wisdom – what is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is to be open to opportunities. The best way to succeed is to immerse yourself in the LA lifestyle and the opportunities that come with it. This means going

to film premieres, music competitions, and fashion shows to connect with some of the world’s best.

Importantly, try your best to have fun too. Make the most of the beautiful weather and positive people in LA so that you can have many magical experiences!
